Time for reflection...

2004 came and went. In less than 48 hours, we'll be ushering yet another new year.

Time to look back and reflect on how we did the past 365 years - the things we did, the people we meet, the achievements (and the non-achievements) we had, etc.

I don't have new year resolutions. Never had done so, not planning to start. I do, however, have a list of things-to-do before I turn a certain age. Not that I am doing much to achieve them right now. *sigh*

Happy New Year everyone...

And we thought it wouldn't happen to us..

Spent almost the whole morning reading about the tragedy. So far, the tally for losses by all the nations hit by the tsunami is climbing up to about 24k..and there are still many missing. *sigh*

The story about people losing their loved ones are just so heart-wrenching. He lost his kids, their children will never see them again, they lost their prince and she is one very lucky girl.

A picture paints a thousand words. Visited here, here, and here.

My condolences and prayers to all the casualties and their families. Wonder if Malaysians would still be in the mood to party on New Year's Eve in 3 days. Mokciknab, I do agree with you..

Feliz Navidad, del fondo del corazón

'Tis that time of the year again. Christmas will always remind me of lunch parties at Andy's (a true blue Terengganu christmas party with Nasi Dagang and Putu Mayam!), decorating the tree in Jaime's, heart-tugging Hallmark Channel movies, and singing in the Essex Choir (and forcing Buster to buy tickets to see us, muahaha!).

Have a great Xmas weekend everyone!

Have yourself a merry little Christmas,
Let your heart be light
From now on,
our troubles will be out of sight
Have yourself a merry little Christmas,
Make the Yule-tide gay,
From now on,
our troubles will be miles away.

Here were are as in olden days,
happy golden days of yore.
Faithful friends who are dear to us
gather near to us once more.

Through the years we all will be together
If the Fates allow
Hang a shining star upon the highest bough.
And have yourself a merry little Christmas now.

A lunch date that didn't happen..

He was on leave. She was bored at work.

He was craving for Chicken Rice. She has been asking for Beef Udon.

He decided to come over for lunch. She squealed in delight.

He called to say he was near. She rushed to the food court to book a table.

He complained about the jam in front of the ticket booth. She decided to walk around while waiting (and avoid the stares from others looking for seats).

He couldn't find any parking spot. He became annoyed, and blamed everyone. He blamed the parking lot, he blamed the last minute X-mas shoppers, he blamed HER for not warning him about the traffic. He decided to just turn back and go home.

She got tired of waiting. She got defensive upon being blamed. She got really hungry and agreed to call everything off.

He drove off. She had her packed japanese delight in the office.

That's life for you.

The Kerteh Chronicles - Part III

Tuesday 14 December 2004

The flood doesn't look like it's going anywhere. Although the Jerangau highway is now opened to cars, I am so not familiar with that road. And they say that highway can be quite dangerous if you are not used to it, especially at night. Some says it is due to 'lembu melitah', some says it is due to some unexplained things *hmmm*.

Reminds me of the stories of Bukit Bauk and Rhu Kubur. We try not to pass those places after Maghrib alone. People say tempat tu kerah sket, berantu pung ye gok (those places are haunted!) Last time I passed that place with Buster, our radio just went off. Coincidence we think, but everytime we pass it now' we'll go shooshing each other. *Mulut bok bek bok bek bbaca doa (lips moving reciting prayers), hehehe!*

Told Mama I might not be going home after all. Aboh sounded dejected. Apparently they have made plans and even bought crabs to cook. Should I just risk being stuck in KT or go home straight? Tough call..*sigh*

Today's visit was similarly uninteresting. The highlight of the day was the fact that I got my dose of soup in that wonderful Nasi Sup place Nadsy recommended. Almost everyone loved it - thank God. *Mr. Bollywood said he'd kill me if the food wasn't good!*

Ooh, here comes the bus. We're going to visit the labs. Let's see if my chemistry knowledge can come in handy..*grin*

Had a round of tennis with CoolMom just now. She's good, she just doesn't give herself enough credit. The thing about being here is I get to exercise everyday. Yesterday it was aerobics and swimming with the girls, and today - at the courts. Plan to continue this once back in KL *fingers crossed*.

Tonight, Insya Allah we'll be having ikan bakar in Paka *those succulent flesh, the sambal..drool*. Abang used to bring me there whenever I stayed with him here, and hope they have the generous spread of fish like before!

Ooh..nearly eight. Better go get ready before they come knocking.

Hi Babes!

Horror of horrors!

The Miss-Fake-American-Accent is now residing on our floor!

EllyB is worried her baby will get infected by the voice and the slang.

I am worried I'll lose my hair everytime I pull it hearing her and Fish Talking Friend go babe-ing everyone.

I need all the luck in the world. *sigh*

The Kerteh Chronicles - Part II

Monday, 13th December 2004

Heard on the news this morning that the flood has turned from bad to worse. More people are being relocated, and up to this hour, three people are feared dead. *Brrrr* It has stopped raining cats and dogs though, thanks to Golden Girl's marvelous singing last night.

We are still waiting in this 'bored' room for someone to attend to us. This particular plant sucks in hospitality so far. Ah well, they say when it rains it pours!

Here we are in this cold, cold place
Our hands are frozen
Ice chips are forming on our faces
It's raining outside
Floods are everywhere
The rivers forever on high tide.

'How are we going home?'
We keep asking ourselves
'This is Kerteh, where can we roam?'
No where to go, except the observation dome!
No trips into the plants
Despite all our rants
In a van with a guide
So far, that's the best we got
After hinting and whining with all our might.

Last we hear
The roads are still closed
Families started asking
Why we stay on this coast
The husbands are worried
But calling is what they can do most.

We sigh in despair
Becoming unrest
Uncertainty too much to bear, paranoia slowly sinking in
Allah is giving us a test
Trying us to figure out what all these mean
Shall try not to worry
Stay calm in the adversity
And pray that we all live to share the story..

The Kerteh Chronicles - Part 1

Sunday, 12 December 2004

We arrived late last night. The drive itself was ok, but it was pretty slow since we needed to avoid those water holes and strain our eyes to drive in the rain. The fact the Mrs Chip can't drive at night meant I was at the wheel almost all the way.

Reached Kemaman at almost nine. Stopped by this new eating place called Teratak Progresif (we can't figure out why it is named as such!) and managed to catch a picture of Ikang Kappah (Cotton fish) for Beta Blogger. The food was good and most importantly, quite cheap. Amazing how two rather medium sized girls could finish one large fish, two bowls of tomyam, veggie and a plate of steam rice EACH in 20 minutes!

By ten, checked in and got ready for bed. Watched some silly Cerekarama on TV3. Funny thing was, although it was really stupid I watched it till the end. Thank God today's programme started at 0900 hours! Also heard on the late night news that all roads leading to KT and the old Kuantan-KL highway are closed due to the flood. *eeek!* Am praying hard that it'll get better soon.

The trip was alright. Got a glimpse of Bro at his workplace. It was so funny looking at him all red-eyed and blur after a 12-hour shift. He was just lucky Mrs Chip and I decided to spare him from the endless questions we planned to grill him on his job!

Am leaving for the spa. Since today ended rather early, we are sooo going for the much anticipated pampering session. And tonight - baked crabs, chilli prawns and croaking away in Spice Island! *crossing fingers that it won't contribute to the rain*

Back from the land of flood, with a neck sprain..

I am back.. after a week of fun and flood.

So many things to write, and updates from the trip. But not today. The kind doctor gave me a jap for my neck sprain and I am giggling by myself now. Colleague thinks the drugs have already kicked in since I see everything funny..

Better go..am seeing double.

Celebration time, come on!

Finally..it is Friday again. With Mama and Aboh around, the week seemed to pass by faster. That plus the fact that I was on leave yesterday *grin*. We've been whoosh-whooshing to people's houses and the hospital.

Aaah, the song Sway is on *sigh*.

A bunch of us girls (and Mr Bollywood) are going to the plants next week. Since we have to work on Sunday, we got next Friday off. Am taking that opportunity to go home..and some of the girls are going shopping. Since I'll be driving, guess who just got nominated as the driver there? *rolls eyes* Looking at the itineiry, we get off work by five. Well, sea and spa - here I come! That, and plenty of seafood. *Bro - you and Chee owe me baked crab!*

Am planning a small tahlil at home tomorrow afternoon, since parents are around. Managed to get one Terengganu lady to cook Ayam Kuzi and Ikan Singgang for me, but dunno whether that'll be enough. Mama said we might have to add another dish apart from the veggie we were planning to prepare. Maybe I'll try Elisa's Easy Peasy Fruit Salad for dessert. *nyum*

Better go back to work if I wanna try my luck leaving early. Bag haven't been packed, and need to get everything ready for tomorrow. So many things to do, so little time! *This is when I wish I have friends living closeby to help. Buster will be working and Mama & T have an appointment*.

I shall be at the plants for 5 days, and there might not be time to blog Just hope they have good internet connection in Awana *crosses fingers*.

Have a great weekend everyone. I know it'll be the last Syawal weekend, but don't go stuff yourselves silly during the open houses!

Welcome, Tihani Marsya

My sis-in-law has finally given birth to a bouncing baby girl at 2115 hours. My latest niece refused to leave her comfort bubble at first, although her due date was 3 days ago. After 12 hours of being in the labour room, the 3.55 kg wonder had to be induced and coaxed out using forceps! *The dad thinks their bundle of joy will be as homely as the mom.*

Wonder how Nanum is gonna act with another baby in the house. Either she'll love her to death, or be jealous that all the attention her cousin would get. It'll be an interesting scenario to watch.

Anyway, congratulations Daddy Chu and Mummy Jiji. It was worth the wait..

'Cause I'm dreaming, of you tonight..

I feel so very sleepy. Serves me right for ignoring the fact that I am working today and still went to catch Sunday Night Live! But how can I ever say no to an Anuar Zain show? It was, by the way, as good as always. Realised that sooooo many girls (and guys, hehe) are crazy over this crooner..they (we?! *grin*) were screaming all the way! From the moment he sang his first note, the crowd were singing along to his songs. Even the super macho guys. Some of us were not so lucky to get a spot in front of the stage, but every single time he turned towards the fans behind, he made everyone fell in love with him again. Oooh, those dimples! That voice! *faint* Poor Dayang, she didn't even get half the response her stage partner got. But she is an excellent singer on stage, just unlucky that 90% of the crowd were Anuar's fan!

We left my dreamy hunk ..errr.. favourite singer by half past one. Buster was already half asleep. It was funny to see him, an ex-clubber (who used to hit the nightspots till the wee hours of the morning in his heydays) yawning at 0030 hours! He said it was funny that our anniversary eve was spent this way - looking at his wife swooning over some guy on stage! Whether he'd ever admit it or not, he enjoyed the show as much as Gemini and I did. *Yes, Buster...we all heard you singing to Januari as well!*(By the way, thanks for giving me the treat..*sloppy kiss*)

It's lunch time and that comfy spot under my desk is calling out for me. Bro calls me his Crouching Lion, Hidden Sister. Say what you want, I am gonna take that nap now.

zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz....

On this day, 365 days ago

It has been a year. How time flies..

I know I am far from being a perfect wife, and there are things that I'll spend my whole lifetime making up to you..but thank you...

...for loving me then,
and for loving me still.

Happy Anniversary, Buster.

I take thee, Ash...

Ash and Boy are now Mr and Mrs.

Unlike most weddings I went to, the akad for this one was done in the mosque WITHOUT the presence of the bride. Ash was waiting at home with the rest of us, while Boy had to face the kadi at a nearby mosque with three others. According to Buster the Reporter, all three of them had to line up in front of the kadi and take a number of who would go first. And much to Buster's dismay (that he wasn't married in Perak), they had an alternative akad which was even shorter than the one in Terengganu! Boy went second, and after trying the long akad once (and failed to do so in one breath)..he was officially married after the second try (with the short version). Ash, Ebs and I were trying hard to hear via the reporter's loudspeaker phone. We just heard rustling, and a few seconds later received an SMS written Congratulations Mrs Ash. The look on her face was priceless! And the first thing she said to Ebs and me was - Guess I'm part of the club now. Ebs, you're next!

Boy came back to the house shortly after to present Ash with the mas kahwin and ring, and that was that. Buster mentioned that if Mr EllyB finds out about the akad, he will claim he is the most macho out of them all. After all, he was subjected to that loooong akad, with an even longer taqliq!*grin*

The reception was held the night after. Ash looked like the radiant bride that she was, and Boy was smiling all the way. After all the tensed moments and fights and drama prior to the wedding, it was heartwarming to see them laughing. *Although we thought Ash could've smiled more on the bridal dais!* It was also great to see old friends seated at the table. As Siti Karipap put it - it is amazing how everyone has grown, and yet could still switch back to our college-girl mode just for a night. The only housemate missing was EllyB. Oh, oh, and the speech went well*Sighs relief*. By the way Mr.(You-Know-Who), thanks for helping out with the speech - especially the Malay part. The girls were laughing at me reciting the pantuns! Mujo dok tersilap switch to Terengganuspeak! After taking what I felt like hundreds of pictures, we left Ash and Boy with a mob of other photographers and made our own separate ways home.

Here's wishing a lifelong happiness to Ash and Boy..amin..

And girls - see you in March!

Happy birthday Mama!

Today marks the 56th birthday of the wonderful woman who brought me into this world.

It also marks the end of her career as a teacher.

Aboh is worried Mama won't know what to do at home. You see, she has always been a workaholic all her life. While Aboh had 2 years at the Foundation after he retired, Mama on the other hand will just stop working. We asked her whether she would consider teaching tuition or something, but she said she just wants to step back and relax with Aboh.

I hope she'll get to do all the things she always wanted to do while she was working and enjoy her retirement.

*In fact, we the kids, are even hoping that she'll visit us more regularly with all the free time she'll have after this!*

So Happy Birthday, Mama.. may this day be one of the most unforgettable birthday ever!

Thursday, December 02, 2004

Maybe it's time to stop clowning around.

It's Thursday and I am already smiling. I'll be on leave tomorrow, just to clean the house before Mama comes, and because we are leaving for Ash's wedding in the afternoon *which reminds me, I haven't finished drafting her speech yet, HELP!*.

Last Friday saw me going solo in Aseana. I haven't done that in ages. Eating alone in a cafe or restaurant that is. Used to do it all the time when I was studying, and once in a while before I got married. I usually equip myself with a reading material handy, even if I end up people watching! It was nice to have my monthly dosage of kerpok lekor (though they had more sagu than ikang) and teh tarik while looking at happy faces of other corporate slaves on a Friday evening.

The only thing about a girl eating alone is the sorry look you get from people at nearby tables. And from the waiters/waitresses. The moment you say you need a table for one, they go "Oh..". . As if you are such a pathetic character to be spending your Friday evening alone. And how sad how a pretty looking chick *this is where you should roll your eyes* has no company for dinner. But sometimes, me ..and a few friends of mine I asked, are also self-conscious to be seen as such. Hence the reading material or even handphone while eating. We are THAT worried about what others think of us. Which shouldn't be the way at all. That evening, I made a silent vow. From then on, I am going to appear confident and remain unperturbed whenever I have to eat on my own.

Anyway, when Buster came to pick me up, we saw an ex-collegemate of ours. I have heard about him from Abang and Buster. After he graduated from England with flying colours, he decided to hang his engineering degree on the wall. He then started his career as clown. Yup, those funny painted looking people. He decided that bringing a smile to sick and unfortunate children is worth more than a five figure job. We saw his pictures in the papers (don't ask me how those two recognised him!) and he looked really contented with what he was doing. He also volunteered with Mercy and other NGOs. Now, he is with yet another well-established NGO, in charge of marketing. Told me he just managed to get my organisation to donate, for the first time*Hmmm..surprising* . And he still clowns around whenever his services are needed.

I wish I can be like him. No, not be a clown, but to be able to do what I really want to do. To not be scared of taking the road less taken. Of being able to be happy and content with what I do for a living. The conversation with the Jester *thanks for listening to my whines and b****ing..as always! hugs* made me think of it even more yesterday. If one day, I just can't take it anymore, would I be brave enough to pack up and leave, and pursue my dreams? To able to work with young minds and follow the footsteps of my parents and Ki? Or just be the Lady of Leisure I have always wanted to be without becoming bored?

For the time being, these questions shall remain as good food for thought. And of course, crucial to remind me to have a re-look at my life in a different perspective. Hmmm...

Well, have a great weekend everyone!
